03 20 Years of Grand Event, Focusing on the Forefront of Water Quality Safety

2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the Qingdao International Water Congress. With the theme of "Water - Source of Life, Foundation of Development", this year's congress gathered more than 6,000 experts and industry leaders from 23 countries around the world. As the most influential water industry event in the Asia-Pacific region, the congress set up 8 core thematic sections, nearly 50 special sub-venues, and more than 460 professional reports.

At the Forum Session 33 themed "Application of Membrane-Core Processes in Equipment Renewal and Security Upgrade of Water Supply Systems", Zhou Mi, Technical Manager of Zhuhai 9TONE Water Service Inc., systematically delivered a keynote lecture titled "Revolutionary Short-Flow Process for In-Situ Degradation of Odorants and Emerging Contaminants in Water".

Currently, the removal of odorants and emerging contaminants such as antibiotics and environmental hormones has become a core challenge in the field of water supply safety. Since the release of the national "Action Plan for the Governance of Emerging Contaminants" in May 2022, the industry's demand for efficient governance technologies has become increasingly urgent. "Conventional processes have limited effects on removing contaminants with large concentration fluctuations and complex types, forcing water plants to add advanced treatment units, leading to a substantial increase in construction and operation costs," Zhou Mi pointed out the industry pain points at the opening of his speech.

9TONE Horizontal Tube® Sedimentation Tank — Redefining Sedimentation Efficiency

Faced with water quality alternating between high turbidity and low temperature/low turbidity, traditional processes are often ineffective. The independently developed Horizontal Tube High-Efficiency Sedimentation Tank by 9TONE Water achieves three major breakthroughs based on Hazen's "Shallow Tank Theory":

· Rhombic Sedimentation Unit Design: Divides the vertical water cross-section into independent units with a sedimentation distance of only centimeter level;

· "Water-Sludge Separation" Structure: Independent sludge sliding channels realize "water flows through water channels, sludge flows through sludge channels", completely eliminating alum loss and blockage;

· Shock Load Resistance up to 15%-35%: Far exceeding the limit of 3%-5% of traditional sedimentation tanks.

Catalytic Ceramic Membrane — Targeted Decomposition of Emerging Contaminants

After the horizontal tube sedimentation tank completes efficient solid-liquid separation, the ceramic membrane is loaded with catalysts. When water passes through the membrane sheet, under the combined action of zeta potential and confinement effect, the catalytic performance of the catalytic system is enhanced, promoting effective collision between hydroxyl radicals and target contaminants, rapidly converting contaminants into harmless substances. At the same time, it has the functions of physical interception and catalytic reactor.

· Under the action of nano-confinement catalytic effect, it efficiently oxidizes and decomposes odorants and emerging contaminants in water;

· Removal rate of odorants ＞97%, emerging contaminants ＞95%, with certain self-cleaning ability;

· No acid-base cleaning required in daily use, no secondary pollution generated.

At the end of the speech, Zhou Mi emphasized: "The ultimate goal of technological innovation is not to pursue complexity, but to solve practical problems in a simpler and more efficient way."
